Tom Kaufman
Tom Kaufman, founder of Kaufman Holdings Restaurant Group, has been a dynamic force in the hospitality industry for over 45 years. Before launching his first restaurant, Tom worked as a Sommelier at the prestigious Hotel Bel-Air, honing his passion for wine and service. Since 1993, he’s opened more than 20 successful restaurants and wine bars throughout the Southwest, including Rancho Pinot, Restaurant Hapa, Humble Pie, The Living Room, Rock Lobster, Sea & Smoke, and CHoP Chandler.
Most recently, he partnered with Chef Rubén Monroy of Elvira’s in Tubac, AZ, to open Elvira’s DC Ranch. Known for his easygoing nature and ability to make guests feel at home, Tom uses his deep knowledge of boutique wines—and his quirky, accessible wine vocabulary—to create memorable dining experiences that are anything but intimidating.
With an Advanced Sommelier Degree from the Court of Master Sommeliers and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Arizona State University, Tom has not only built restaurants but also mentored a new generation of celebrated sommeliers, restaurateurs, and chefs. A firm believer in focusing on what he does best—wine and service—Tom entrusts culinary operations to his Corporate Executive Chef, Christopher George. With more than 200 employees across his restaurant group, Tom’s philosophy, inspired by his father—“Do what you love. You never learn when you are talking, only when you listen”—continues to guide his enduring success in the industry.
